Group Orders: Graduations and Special Occasions

What this is for

School graduations and class ceremonies are the most typical example. Choirs, folk dance and performance groups, groups of children wearing the same outfit at a henna night, and orders for siblings and cousins who want to match within the family all work the same way.

The shared need is this: the dresses should look identical but fit each child. That is exactly what we do - one design, one fabric, individual measurements.

How the process works

It always starts with a conversation. You write to us with the number of children, the date of the ceremony and the design you have in mind, and we tell you plainly whether it can be done in that time. If it cannot, we say so at the outset; there are no surprises later.

Once the design and fabric are settled, we move on to collecting measurements. When those are complete we begin sewing, and when everything is ready we discuss how to deliver.

How we collect measurements

Every design comes in five sizes: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 yrs. For a group order we first discuss which child falls into which size, and then confirm the measurements one by one.

Measurements are confirmed over WhatsApp after the order. We explain step by step where and how to take each measurement on the Measuring Guide page; with larger groups, the safest approach is to pass that page on to the parents and have one person collect all the measurements.

Writing each child's name next to her measurements when you send the list makes things much easier. That way there is no confusion at delivery about which dress belongs to whom.

Consistent colour and fabric

This is what we pay the most attention to on group work. The same colour of fabric can show small differences in tone between batches, and with the children standing side by side that difference shows at once. So we set aside enough fabric for the whole group in one go.

The practical consequence is this: rather than growing the order piece by piece, we want to know the total number at the outset. If two more dresses are added later, there may be none of the same fabric left.

We also keep an eye on how the design balances across sizes. The same dress sits differently on a 3-4 yrs and on an 11-12 yrs, so the fullness of the skirt and the amount of trim are adjusted to the size; the aim is for every child in the group to look part of the same set.

How far ahead to start

The preparation time for a single dress is 7-14 days. In a group order every dress is sewn individually, so the total naturally takes longer; we discuss the exact schedule once we know the number of children and the design, and give you a clear date.

To that you need to add the time for collecting measurements and for shipping. With larger groups, gathering all the measurements usually takes longer than expected, so we suggest writing to us as soon as the date of the ceremony is known.

There is another benefit to getting in touch early: we have time to talk through the design and fabric options at leisure. With last-minute jobs the options narrow, and there are some requests we cannot accept.
