Organza Girls' Party Dresses

Organza is a semi-sheer fabric woven from tightly twisted threads, with a slightly crisp handle. Held in the hand it is smoother than tulle and much firmer than chiffon; where it bends, it spreads out rather than staying folded. It has a faint rustle and a fine sheen that appears in the light, so its texture shows clearly in photographs taken during the day.

Thanks to that firmness, organza can carry cape cuts that stand away from the arm and skirts that flare outwards without any support. On a child it does not cling to the body, and the pocket of air in between keeps it from feeling stifling on hot days. Because the edges of the fabric are not as soft as tulle, it matters that the sleeve and neckline finishes do not chafe the child's arm, and we go over that detail together before sewing.

Organza suits daytime ceremonies in spring and summer best, along with outdoor occasions such as graduations and civil weddings. In its care it is sensitive to heat: at a high temperature the iron can glaze the surface and leave a permanent mark. For creases, the safest way is to hang the dress up and steam it from a distance; and if it stands in the wardrobe without being pressed between garments squeezed side by side, the fabric keeps its own shape for a long time.
