Custom Design & Tailoring: For designs created especially for you, the price is determined by the fabric, guipure, lace, stones, trims, workmanship and design details involved. Prices for custom designs differ from those of our collection designs. How does custom design work?

Colourful sewing threads on wooden spools scattered across a light background

All three of these colours come from the cool family, so they work without trouble with most skin tones. Lilac is pale and pastel, so it looks soft on very fair skin and creates a clear contrast on olive skin; saxe blue, with its liveliness, draws the eye straight to the face on dark-haired children. Navy is the calmest option, and on fair-haired children the difference between hair and dress makes it read even more clearly.

Fabric and season are thought about together here. Lilac chiffon and layered tulle stay light for spring engagements, henna nights and school events; the upright stand of taffeta suits more formal ceremonies, and the texture of velvet suits the winter months and evening receptions. Velvet can keep a child warm indoors, so it is worth bearing that in mind for events that will run long.

Dark shades behave differently from light ones in photographs. Colours such as navy and saxe can merge with the background in dimly lit halls and swallow the detail of the dress, which is why visible embroidery at the collar, waist and hem makes a difference. If the event has decor built around blue, moving towards lilac keeps the same colour family from piling up.

FAQ

Will a navy velvet dress be too heavy for a child?

Velvet is a fuller texture than the other fabrics, so the lining and the volume of the skirt are set so that the child can move comfortably. If you write to us with your child's age and how long the event will last, we can plan the lining and the volume accordingly.

Is a dark-coloured dress suitable for a summer occasion?

A dark colour is not a problem on its own; what decides it is the fabric itself. In light textures such as chiffon and single-layer tulle, dark shades can be carried even on a hot day, while the fuller build of velvet and taffeta can be hard going at summer events. If you write to us with the season and the time of the ceremony, we can look at the same colour in a lighter fabric.
