Henna Night and Bindallı

A Girl's Bindallı for the Henna Night

At a henna night, the little girls of the family can join the bride in her bindallı by wearing a small bindallı of their own. Just like our party dresses, we make bindallı for girls for the henna night to order, to the child's own measurements. On this page we cover choosing the colour and fabric, matching the bride's outfit, and what to look out for so she stays comfortable all night.

What Is a Bindallı, and How Is It Adapted for a Girl?

The bindallı is the traditional outfit of the henna night: a long-skirted dress or kaftan, usually in velvet, decorated with gold- or silver-toned embroidery. The bride wears one at the henna night, and the little girls of the family can join the evening in a small bindallı that goes with hers.

A child's bindallı is not simply a scaled-down version of the adult design. Through the evening the child will sit down and get up again, join the line dancing and stand beside the bride during the henna ceremony; so weight, freedom in the sleeves and skirt length matter at least as much as looks.

Colour, Fabric and Embroidery

Burgundy is one of the most popular shades for a bindallı.

The most popular shades for a bindallı are burgundy, red, purple, navy and emerald green; the deep colour of velvet brings out the shine of the embroidery. We decide on the fabric, colour and embroidery details together on WhatsApp before you order; if you have a design in mind, you can send us a photo of it.

For younger girls, embroidery gathered at the neckline, cuffs and hem tires the child less than dense, heavy embroidery. For comfort through the night, it also matters that the surface against the skin is soft and that the embroidery doesn't rub under the arms.

Matching the Bride's Bindallı

The little bindallı doesn't need to be identical to the bride's; a shade from the same colour family or a similar embroidery motif is enough to tie the photos together. If you send us a photo of the bride's bindallı taken in daylight, we can choose the shade together.

If sisters or cousins will be wearing a bindallı together, the same design can be made in the same fabric and shade, sewn to each child's own measurements.

Bindallı or Party Dress?

In some families the little girls wear a bindallı all night; in others, a bindallı is chosen only for the henna ceremony and a party dress for the festivities. If the night will run long and the child is young, planning the bindallı for the henna ceremony and a comfortable party dress for the festivities can be a good solution.

If you opt for a party dress, you'll find colour and cut suggestions in our henna night guide, and designs suited to a henna night in our henna night dress collection.

Measurements, Timing and Ordering

Measure the skirt length with the shoes she will wear on the henna night.

Like our party dresses, the bindallı is sewn to the child's own measurements; we recommend measuring the skirt length with the shoes she'll wear on the henna night. We explain how to take measurements at home in our measuring guide.

The preparation time varies with the design and how much embroidery it has. If you tell us the date of the henna night in your first message, we'll plan the schedule around it together; in wedding season, getting in touch early makes things easier for you.
